Mid-Year Check In- Book Haul + Goals Review

Hello friends! I hope you are all doing well :) Can you believe we are halfway through the year? Honestly, it’s a bit scary to think that we still have another 6 months of 2020 left, considering all that has happened this year already. Hopefully things will only go up from here!

Today I wanted to take a look at the reading and blogging goals I set for myself for this year, and check in on where I am! I also thought I would do a mid-year haul, since I do not purchase nearly as many books as I used to, so I do not really share hauls anymore.

Let’s get on with the goals!

Blogging Goals:

  • Post at least once a week (but aim for 2)-

I have successfully uploaded two posts every single week this year (except for the first week of June when I only uploaded one), every Tuesday and Thursday! This is major for me because blogging was always so inconsistent for me, and I never followed a super strict schedule. However, assigning designated posting days has helped me out so much, and I’m so glad I did it!

  • Write one book review per month– ✅

Another success in the books! I have posted at least one review every month so far this year because I planned out all of my posts ahead of time, which has helped ensure that I get them up! I usually slack on posting reviews because they take me the longest time to write. I wanted to change that this year because I find reviews so helpful, and I love writing them!

  • Utilize Pinterest more– ❌

My first fail. I wanted to start using Pinterest this year as a way to generate more readers. But, quite honestly, I feel like it is just more effort than it’s worth for me. I love Pinterest, and I create boards all of the time, but I don’t think it’s something that is necessary for me at this time with my blog. In the future, I might try to incorporate it more, but this goal will probably remain unsuccessful for the duration of the year.

  • Hit 1000 followers– ✅

I can’t believe I actually hit 1000 followers on here!! I am so so grateful to every single one of you who has ever read one of my posts and enjoyed it enough to follow my blog. I created this blog because I wanted an outlet for myself to write and express myself, and I never thought it would get this far. Thank you <3

Reading Goals:

  • Read 52 books-

As of when I am posting this, I have surpassed my reading challenge of 52 books and I am at 56!! Last year I read over 100 books, so I knew reaching 52 would not be hard. However, I wanted to put less pressure on myself to constantly read more and more. I probably wouldn’t have hit 52 already if it weren’t for quarantine being a thing since March and thus having much more free time on my hands. But, I am so happy with how much I’ve been reading, no matter the reason!

  • Read 1 ARC a month-

Surprisingly, I’ve been reading quite a few of my ARCs this year, and even many prior to their release date (what was once a rare occurrence for me).

  • Read 1 e-book a month-

If you’ve read any of my TBR posts this year (or follow me on Instagram), you know that I pick one e-book from my TBR jar to read every single month! So far, I have read all of the ones I’ve picked, woohoo! I am awful at actually getting to my e-books, so I am glad that I can say I have actually gotten through quite a few of them this year.

  • Get my owned TBR to under 50 books-

At the start of the year, I had about 100 books on my owned TBR shelf on Goodreads (meaning I own the book but have not read it yet). I wanted to prioritize books I already have instead of borrowing or buying new ones.

As of now, I have gotten it down to about 75 books. This is not ideal at all, but I think that I will be able to get this down even more before the end of the year. Hopefully.

  • Buy under 10 books-

It is June and I have technically been successful with this, but I already purchased 9 books, which means I can’t buy anymore for the remainder of the year. Can I do it? Honestly, I do not have a lot of faith in myself. In all fairness, this number would have been lower had it not been for quarantine (I was only at 4), but the longer I was stuck at home, the more I needed something to cheer me up- which meant I was doing some online book shopping. I know, terrible excuse, but it happened and it’s too late to change that now!!

Haul:

This haul is only the books that I myself purchased. It does not include any books that were sent to me by publishers, gifted to me, or won in a giveaway!

I think for the most part, I will be overall successful at the end of the year, if things go as planned!

2020 Life Goals and Resolutions (Will I actually be successful this year?)

Hello and welcome to my 2020 life goals post! I know that we’re halfway through the month at this point, but I still wanted to share what my 2020 goals are because I like to have a way to hold myself accountable!

If you haven’t already seen it, I posted a reading goals post a little while ago that you can check out as well!

I have many goals this year that I honestly don’t know if I will be able to accomplish fully. However, I wanted to go into this year by aiming high rather than low, so I decided to add more resolutions than I usually would.

I divided them up into personal and blogging goals, though the personal ones can be divided up even further into mindfulness, health/fitness, school, finance, and misc.!

Along with this, my mantra for the year is “be present.” I noticed that I tend to spend way too much time planning for, thinking, and worrying about the future rather than focusing on the here and now. Hopefully, I will be able to change that this year!

Now, let’s get onto the goals!

Personal:

Mindfulness:

  • meditate more frequently
  • set to-do lists the night before
  • limit screen time

Health/Fitness:

  • eat less processed sugar
  • workout 3-5 days per week (at least 15 times per month)
  • drink 64 oz of water per day

Finances:

  • attempt a “low buy year”
  • add $5-10 per week into savings account
  • pay off credit card

School:

  • join a new club
  • start thesis research
  • land a summer internship or job (slightly school-related)

Miscellaneous:

  • write more frequently
  • watch all movies on AFI’s Best 100 Movies list
  • learn to bake/cook better

Blog:

  • Post at least once a week (but aim for 2)
  • write one book review per month
  • utilize Pinterest more
  • hit 1000 followers

Again, I am being ambitious this year, but I’m going to slowly incorporate these things into my lifestyle. I am not trying to immediately accomplish all of these, so I do think I can be fairly successful!

Goals For The Rest of The Year // 2019

Hey, loves!

We are over half-way through 2019, which I am still trying to process. But, I realized I haven’t been focusing on my goals as much as I wanted to. In fact, my goals have changed completely.

So, I thought that today would be a good day to set new goals for myself that I can actually try to achieve before the year ends. I want to make sure I end this year feeling good about the things I accomplished, so hopefully hitting these goals will help me do that!

Read 100 books

I am at 82 books read this year at this very moment! That is the most that I’ve ever read in a year and I still have 4 1/2 months to go. I am definitely aiming for 100 now, even though my original goal was 52. Audiobooks have been my best friend, and honestly, that’s the only reason I was able to read so many. Nonetheless, this is an exciting moment in my reading life :)

Finish my poetry manuscript

I wrote a lot of poetry during the school year, so I thought that once the summer came I would write even more. But, I didn’t. I think I wrote a total of 2 poems all season long. My manuscript is well over 1/2 way done, so I just need another 50 or so poems to finish. I want to get this draft done, so I can either start edits or work on another collection I have planned.

Run at least twice a week

I started going on runs at home and I love it so much. I moved to a new house a few weeks ago, so the new route possibilities I have are endless and the views are phenomenal. It has been making me feel so good, so I want to continue this for the rest of the year, especially when school starts.

Get my Netgalley feedback ratio to 85%

I am a horrible person and I constantly request ARCs even when I have a ton of unread ones. My ratio is currently at 71%, so I only have to read and review a few more to get to 85. I think it will be manageable as long as I don’t request any others.

Not purchase any more books until 2020

At the beginning of the year, I put myself on a book buying ban for all of 2019… but that didn’t work too well. I allowed myself leeway of up to 5 books, but I ended up buying quite a few more than that. It is definitely still under the amount that I bought last year by a TON, so at least I can say that. So, my new goal now is to just not buy any books until the year is over. I have close to 100 unread books, so I have plenty to choose from, and I really don’t need any more right now.

Continue posting once a week on the blog for the rest of the year

I have been really consistent with my posting on the blog this entire year. I have posted every Tuesday (with the exception of a two-week hiatus) since January. For a little bit, I was even posting twice a week. I would love to finish out the year strong on the blog and continue posting every single week. In September I am going to be changing my posting day (most likely to Mondays) because of my class schedule next semester, but either way, I will stay consistent.

2018 Goals

I am a huge goal setter. I set daily, weekly, and monthly goals for myself all the time because I like to keep myself motivated with them.  So naturally, I had to create this post because the beginning of 2018 is now upon us. I know 2017 wasn’t the best year for everyone, but that just means we can only go up in 2018. Besides the things that were going on in the world, I changed a lot in 2017. However, I am looking forward to 2018, and I hope to change more than just myself- I want to change the world.

And now, the reason you clicked on this post- my goals!

Say “yes” more

I say no to going out and doing things a lot. I am a homebody, and I need time for myself in order to recharge. I haven’t been spending a lot of times with friends over the past couple of months, especially since I started working. Over winter break, I finally had the rest I needed, and I feel like I am ready to go out again.

Go on more adventures

Like I said before, I stay home a lot. When I do go out, it’s always to the same few places, and I don’t mix it up a lot. This year I am hoping to change that. I want to explore new places in my town and in my state. I want to step out of my comfort zone and see all the different sights there are to see.

Use my film camera more

Over the summer, I bought a film camera, and since then, I have only developed one roll of film. I want to take more pictures and actually use the camera, since I spent a lot of money on it. I want to take the pictures so I can turn them into physical memories. I just need to remember to bring the camera with me.

Spend Less money

I have been a shopaholic my entire life. This is my worst trait in my opinion, because it means when I finally have some money, I impulsively buy way too many things that I don’t even need. If I only follow one resolution, I want it to be this one. Wish me luck (I’m really going to need it for this one).

Read for quality, not quantity

In 2017, I read a total of 65 books. My goal on Goodreads was 50, so I definitely surpassed that. However, I was constantly picking up the shorter books from my TBR in order to finish more books. I don’t want to read like this in 2018, because I don’t want reading to be a competition. Therefore, I set my goal to only 1 book this year so that I can still keep track of what I read, but without the added stress of reaching a goal.

Get organized when it comes to blogging

Way back two years ago, when I first began this blog, I was so organized. I planned out each post, I scheduled them weeks in advance, and had all my pictures taken and ready. Now, I write blog posts in a hurry because I find that I never have time to write them. I want this to change. I want to go back to producing quality content. Hopefully this first post will begin this challenge. I also want to get a routine and a schedule for posting.

End of the Year Goals

I can’t believe it’s already December. This year went by insanely fast but I feel like so much had happened. 2017 was just wild. I am ready to embrace the new year with open arms and see where life takes me.

By the way— my next post is going to be a Q&A so ask me questions on this post if you want!

I have some things left to accomplish by the end of this year still, so here’s to hoping i can complete them all.

  1. Read 65 books- i have already read 63 books, which means I only need to finish 2 more books in about 2 1/2 weeks. I have started multiple books that I have yet to finish, so I should finish at least 2, if not more.
  2. Develop a routine for blogging- I started working a real job back in September, and ever since then, blogging has been extremely difficult. I need to work on setting up a schedule every week so that I don’t fall behind all the time.
  3. Write 35 pages in my journal- I have multiple journals, but I have one that is strictly dedicated to writing poems. I have about 30 pages written in it, but I want to write 5 more. I haven’t done a lot of writing recently, so I want to get around to it.
  4. Finish watching The Carrie Diaries- Yes, this is my third time watching this show, but I can’t get enough. I have less than 1/2 of the second season left, so it shouldn’t take me long to finish.
  5. Start Working Out Again- I haven’t worked out on my own in a really long time. I started fitness in gym class this marking period, so at least I work out a little bit. I really want to get back in shape and actually feel motivated to work out.
